The climb to Edinburgh Castle along the Royal Mile takes visitors through a historic journey, offering stunning views of the city from its esplanade. Once inside, you'll cross the castle walls and witness how the fortress evolved alongside Edinburgh's growing significance in Scotland's history. Over centuries, the castle played a pivotal role in many events that shaped the United Kingdom. From its early days as a Celtic stronghold to becoming the site of countless battles and royal events, the castle is a testament to Scotland's enduring legacy.
As Scotland's most visited attraction, Edinburgh Castle is a living museum of history. Within its walls, you’ll encounter remnants of the Celts, Romans, and the legacies of iconic figures such as Robert the Bruce, William Wallace, and Mary Stuart. The castle houses invaluable treasures like the Honors of Scotland and the Stone of Destiny, both symbols of the nation's heritage. Additionally, its military museums showcase the UK's military history, with exhibits dedicated to the army and the role of the castle in various military campaigns over the centuries.
The history of Edinburgh Castle stretches back to around 900 BC when life first began to develop around this volcanic rock. By 600 AD, the first fortress was established, initially constructed from wood before evolving into the stone structure that stands today. Over time, the castle became a refuge for kings and a target for the English. After the Jacobite siege in 1745, the castle shifted from its defensive role to a national symbol, drawing over a million visitors each year. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the castle's museums, explore its historic prisons, and witness the famous one-o'clock cannon, a tradition that continues to this day.

Awful experience – denied tour, rude staff, no refund, and double charged! I booked the “Edinburgh: Glenfinnan Viaduct, Glencoe and Fort William Tour” for May 22 via Viator. We were denied entry on the day of the tour because we had our 6-month-old baby — something not clearly mentioned anywhere during the booking process. We tried contacting the operator before the tour, messaged them, got no reply. On the day, they were rude, refused any refund, no credit, no alternative, and simply sent us away. Now to make matters worse, we just found out that Viator charged us TWICE for this booking — that’s over £230 gone with no service provided. We are beyond disappointed. This was supposed to be part of our holiday and it turned into stress. Viator completely failed us — no communication, no empathy, no responsibility. Not recommended at all.

I’m totally disappointed to share my experience. Our tour was canceled with no advance warning, which was quite frustrating. Upon arrival, we were told that we'd been moved to the next day. This was problematic, as we were leaving the day after. To make matters worse, we were offered a tour in Spanish, despite the other participants not speaking the language. It felt like there was no real effort to find a solution. Honestly, I can't recommend this agency, as the lack of responsibility was quite disheartening.

Lovely experience with Jose Luis as our guide. Excellent guide with care, great music charming our road trip and telling us stories and history, learned a lot. It was definitely worth it!

The bus tour was so amazing!! The stops are perfectly planned and I believe the times of waiting and spending on the places are the correct ones. Our driver and guide Sandra was really fun and took care of us. She knows a lot about history including music, tv and series related ro it. She also knows how to keep you entertained during the entire trip!

I sent my parents with them for 3 days trip and they returned much younger and happier, wait, are they my real parents?? My parents enjoyed the route, the accomodation, the explanations and the care they received from the whole company and especially from Sergio, the driver. If they offer new routes in the future my parents would love to go again with them. Thanks so much for looking after my parents (78yo couple) so well, you are a marvelous team. Muchísimas gracias por todo a ti también Sarah! XX Leo
