Experience a unique historical rowing adventure in Weymouth exploring coastal landmarks and stories that shaped the region. The weekend begins with a short arrival briefing before the first day of rowing through Weymouth Historic Harbour and surrounding waters. Participants learn the basics of gig rowing before heading toward Newtons Cove and the northern section of the Portland Breakwater. Along the route the guide shares fascinating insights into Weymouth history including the development of torpedo manufacturing and the important coastal defenses. The day also features a visit to Nothe Fort and an afternoon row across Weymouth Bay retracing the movements of American soldiers who prepared here for the historic D Day landings.
The second day continues along the impressive Portland Breakwater toward the distinctive Chequered Fort and into Portland Harbour. The journey highlights important military and maritime history including shipwreck stories and coastal defenses built during the reign of Henry the Eighth. Participants visit the D Day Visitors Centre and Portland Castle before rowing back toward Weymouth while viewing the wreck site connected with HMS Hood. An optional third day may be added for a relaxed recovery row with a sauna stop and lunch break creating a memorable coastal experience combining adventure learning and scenic views.
