Be aware there are two terminals in Sofia airport. I landed 2 hours and needed to go to different terminal. There is a shuttle bus. But I took a taxi to be sure. Terminal 1 is more moderne. Went fast to luggage controle. Nice airport. I had a nice pizza and charged my phone!

Service by the ground staff/counter for Turkish Airlines is horrible! Other than that, this airport isn’t bad at all. There is some construction going on at Terminal 2 Departures but there wasn’t any loud sound or anything. It did make a few of the signages a bit hard to notice/find. But these are very minor inconveniences. I think Terminal 2 is the International Terminal, which is directly connected to the Metro. If you go to the end of the terminal, exit the door, you will see the Metro’s entrance immediately in front! (There’s unfortunately a smoking area in between… rather odd place to put one, but it’s Eastern Europe, so for many in the population, this is considered a convenience, I suppose.) The airport is very compact, but has enough establishments for some last-minute shopping or drinks and food. There is a lounge for certain credit cardholders, airline status holders, or those willing to pay. For those flying to non-Schengen destinations, the lounge is unfortunately located before passport check, but it isn’t too far from the Gates nor does passport check get crowded, so you only need just a bit of extra time.

I love this airport! I have been to lots of airports around the world and this is one of my faves. Small but complete and has lots of seating in proportion to the travellers and the dining choices are good, it is not diverse but it is good enough! It has a straightforward metro that brings you to the airport or to the city!

I recently traveled through Sofia Airport on my way to Dubai. While the airport is functional and has improved in some ways since Bulgaria joined the EU, I noticed that prices in cafes and shops have gone up significantly, which feels unreasonable given the overall service level. We arrived 4 hours early for our flight — which is usually more than enough — but had to wait an additional hour so that check-in opens, making the process long and tiring, especially for families. The airport facilities are clean, but the passenger experience could definitely be improved. For example: Not enough seating near the gates, Limited food options, and most are overpriced. Staff are polite but not always very responsive, luck of language. That said, security was smooth, and signage is clear. I hope with time, more attention is given to enhancing the comfort and efficiency of the airport for international traveler’s

The most convenient airport among dozens of airports around the world that I have been to. It is easy to navigate. You walk out of the only hallway, and the metro station is right in front of you. Swipe your credit card to pay a minuscule fare, you are in a clean and safe subway taking you all the way to downtown. The staff there are efficient and friendly.
