Roatan Wildlife Tour Offers Close-Up Animal Encounters at AJ’s Monkey and Sloth Park

Wildlife-focused excursions in Roatan continue to attract families and cruise visitors seeking hands-on animal experiences combined with guided island transportation. One of the most popular stops is AJ’s Monkey and Sloth Park, a sanctuary dedicated to rescued and locally native species.

The tour begins with convenient pickup from cruise terminals such as Coxen Hole or Mahogany Bay, followed by a short scenic drive in air-conditioned transport. Guests are accompanied by a driver and guide who provide support and context throughout the journey to the wildlife park.

At the sanctuary, visitors spend approximately 45 minutes observing and interacting with animals including sloths, monkeys, parrots, raccoons, and other native species. The experience is designed to allow close but supervised encounters, giving guests opportunities for photos while learning about animal behavior and habitat.

Beyond interaction, the park also emphasizes conservation and education, highlighting efforts to protect local wildlife and raise awareness about their natural environments. This combination of accessibility, learning, and memorable animal encounters has made the attraction a key highlight of Roatan’s family-oriented tour offerings.

One of the best experiences we have ever done. This was literally a last minute thing and this company set up transportation to and from for us. Interactions with the animals were amazing and all staff were great. Highly recommended this company for its safety measures for visitors and its animals.

My family was on the island while on a cruise and did not have an excursion planned. We ended up taking a taxi and the driver took us to AJs Monkey and Sloths and were not disappointed! The fee was only $15 per person and so worth it!!!! First we held Guinea pigs, then got to touch Sloths! We weren’t able to hold them because of laws changing but it was still so cool to be able to see them close up and touch them. Then we weren’t able to see the birds and lastly got to go in a cage with the monkeys. They were so fun! They kept jumping around our heads while the employees gave us pieces of apples to feed them. Just be prepared to have dirty in your hair and clothes. But worth every penny!

AMAZING!!! This is a must-do activity in Roatan. We had such an incredible experience with the sloths at AJ's. The extremely knowledgeable and nice staff gave my wife a flower to feed to a sloth, which was a magical, unique experience (see pictures). We got to take our time with the sloths and did not feel rushed. Our visit was mid-July, 2025. You do not hold the sloths here, which is completely fine! It is nice knowing and seeing that they take excellent care of these beautiful, gentle creatures. As you can see in the pictures, we had an unbelievable experience with the sloths, and there was no need to also hold them. The guinea pigs were also surprisingly cute and fun! Additionally, they also have monkeys and large, colorful, beautiful Macaws. After arriving, you will want between 30 - 90 minutes at AJ's. We spent about 60 minutes there.
