Adaptive Sailboat Rentals offer experienced sailors an accessible way to enjoy Bellingham Bay aboard specially equipped adaptive sailboats. Each three hour rental is designed for sailors who have demonstrated the skills and judgment needed to operate an adaptive sailboat safely and independently or with an approved companion sailor.
The adaptive fleet supports a wide range of abilities with features designed to improve comfort confidence and independence on the water. Hansa 303 sailboats support double handed sailing while the Hansa Liberty features advanced accessibility equipment including a Power Assist Unit. The team assists with sailboat preparation transfers and de rigging when needed.
New adaptive sailors must first develop their skills through private lessons before renting. Experienced sailors may request a skills assessment through a Discovery Sail. The wheelchair accessible dock features an adaptive lift for easier boat access and exit. Participants under 16 must have a parent or guardian present during the rental.
The rental lasts three hours and follows a specific cancellation policy. Cancellations more than three weeks ahead receive a full refund while cancellations one to three weeks ahead receive a 50 percent refund. Cancellations less than one week before the rental receive no refund. Guests appearing intoxicated cannot participate.
