A British and Hungarian passport holder charged 1700Baht for visa on arrival. Did not receive any other fees. No corruption seen. Polite and well organized border. There was some cutting in and pushing to get on to the bus. Cross the border and bus to cross the bridge

I bought the bus ticket from Vientiane to Udon Thani. Make sure to fill out the departure form for Laos before you arrive at the border. No need to bring the luggage to get the passport stamped. I saw a few people in the next queue get ready with some notes $$ with their passport at Laos border. I didn’t give any money to the officer and had no problem to get my passport stamped. The bus waited for all the passengers completed the border crossing process and resume the journey to Thailand border.

The immigration to Laos seems quite fast. I needed to pay a 20 baht fee but not sure if others (who have Visa or other Asian countries) need to do the same. After passing through the immigration, you will encounter touts who offer you a ride to town. Ignore them as they will likely charge you a lot more. Cross the road to your right where you can see some shops. Take the bus number 14 to town for 20 baht. You will arrive at Talat Sao Bus Station, which is near the Talat Sao Morning Market where you can change your currency into kip. You'll get a better rate than other places.
