This mountainous region is known for its pleasant climate, with moderate temperatures during the summer and significantly cooler conditions in the winter, making it an ideal destination year-round. As you explore the area, you'll notice a vibrant landscape shaped by generations of farming. Agricultural terraces carved into the slopes support a variety of fruit trees such as grapes, pomegranates, and apricots, along with seasonal legumes that thrive in the highland soil.
A highlight of the visit is a walk along the descending falaj — a traditional irrigation channel — that flows from the top of the village down to the agricultural terraces. This gentle path offers not only a glimpse into the region’s ingenious water management system but also stunning views of cultivated terraces and the surrounding mountains, creating a peaceful and culturally rich experience for visitors.

Beautiful village on top of a mountain; step farming; Pomegranate trees; wonderful vistas of the valley. Worth the climb (4WD) and a 2-3km hike on a stoned pathway.

Wonderful place and views. But you need off-road'ish car. Be careful driving there

Less than 2 hours away from Muscat, Wakkan Village is a perfect place if you really crave for greenery and traditional omani culture. At the time of our visit, weather was good and we did enjoy a really good breeze of cold air. It was season of pomegranates too! Last time I was here in 2017, there werent any coffee shops by the jump off but now local coffee shops cater to local delicacies and local produce. They also have an honest store where you grab stuff and pay yourself. So much for the trust 🥹 Friendly locals and kids who played with my son. Good experience ❤️
