The National Museum of Anthropology is one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in Mexico and Latin America. With 22 exhibition halls, it houses the largest and most important collection of archaeology and anthropology in the country. Each room is dedicated to a different region or civilization, such as the Mexica (Aztecs), the central highlands, Oaxaca’s valleys, and the Maya world. Visitors can admire some of the most iconic and valuable artifacts in Mexican history, including the famous Stone of the Sun, the monumental statue of the goddess Coatlicue, the intricately carved tomb of Pakal, the powerful Atlantes from Tula, funeral offerings from Monte Albán, and ancient stelae from Xochicalco. This museum offers a deep and fascinating look at the cultures that shaped the foundations of modern Mexico.
After this enriching cultural experience, continue your journey through the historic center of Mexico City—an area where the past and present coexist in a stunning mosaic. Beneath the modern streets and colonial facades lie the stones and secrets of ancient civilizations. Discover hidden temples buried beneath centuries-old buildings, and learn about the legends that still echo through the city's narrow alleyways. See the Metropolitan Cathedral, built directly atop a sacred Aztec site, and admire grand colonial palaces that now house museums, restaurants, and government offices. This part of the tour reveals how Mexico City’s vibrant heart is not only a bustling urban center but also a living museum of layered history and cultural fusion.

Maricela is a wonderful guide with an extensive knowledge of the Anthropology Museum. I researched carefully before contacting her about giving us a tour, as we had previously experienced guides who clearly “invented” facts to fill in gaps in their knowledge, and I was determined that it wouldn’t happen again! And I am happy to report that the glowing reviews of other customers are totally justified. We were spending a few days in Mexico City before travelling to Oaxaca for a Day of the Dead Tour, and so I asked Maricela to give us a tour of the Museum that would put Day of the Dead in Oaxaca into context. She did this brilliantly, in a thoroughly engaging manner. She is articulate, highly intelligent, and really knows her stuff. Thanks to her excellent tour, we have a much clearer understanding of Mayan history and culture, which made our experience of the Day of the Dead far more enjoyable. I would highly recommend Maricela to anyone who is looking for a deeper understanding of the amazing exhibits in the Anthropology Museum.

I booked a private guided tour at the Museum of Anthropology for me and my parents, and I'm so happy I did! We learned a lot from her, she's so smart and knowledgeable and great at presenting the information. It's clear Maricela knows the museum like the back of her hand. We definitely gained way more knowledge than if we were to go on our own, especially as many of the signs were in Spanish. If you're looking for a guide for the museum, definitely book Maricela!

Maricela’s enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge was an excellent introduction to Museo Nacional de Antropología. Her information painted a vivid picture of history and cultural evolution of Mexico. I must say that my head was filled by the end. And I am inspired to do some reading to solidify it all in my mind. I highly recommend a tour with Maricela.

My wife and I had a wonderful 2+ hour private tour of the National Museum of Anthropology México, with Maricela Muñoz. Maricela was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and it was easy to chat about Mexico's history - both recently as well as historically. Would unconditionally recommend Maricela! 5 Stars!

Maricela was such an amazing tour guide. What I loved the most is that I didn’t know exactly which tour I wanted to do / which parts of the museum I wanted to cover. When I got there I told her a little about what I’m interested in, and she tailored the tour to exactly what we wanted to do! She was extremely knowledgeable and able to contextualize everything within the discipline of anthropology, the political motivations of the museum, and different ancient cultures around the world. I took my dad with me who does not typically enjoy museums and he had an amazing time, 3 days later he is still talking about it. Thank you so much Maricela!
