Madeira’s Eastern 4x4 Tour Reveals Villages, Forests, and Mountain Peaks

An adventurous 4x4 journey through eastern Madeira offers visitors a dynamic way to explore the island’s rugged interior. Traveling in an open-top vehicle, guests enjoy uninterrupted panoramic views as the route moves far beyond conventional tourist paths. The off-road experience provides access to remote landscapes where coastal cliffs, deep valleys, and lush green slopes showcase the island’s dramatic natural diversity.

The tour includes stops in traditional, non-touristic villages that highlight the authentic Madeiran way of life. Here, visitors gain insight into local customs, agriculture, and rural living while experiencing the slower pace of island communities. A major highlight is the exploration of the UNESCO-listed Laurissilva forest, a rich and ancient ecosystem filled with endemic plants and wildlife found nowhere else in the world.

One of the most iconic stops is Santana, known for its distinctive triangular thatched-roof houses that reflect Madeira’s architectural heritage. The journey also ascends to the island’s third-highest peak, where sweeping views reveal the full scale of Madeira’s mountainous terrain and surrounding Atlantic Ocean.

To complete the experience, travelers visit a traditional rum factory to learn about Madeira’s historic distilling practices and sample locally produced spirits. Combining adventure, culture, and nature, this guided 4x4 tour delivers a comprehensive and immersive exploration of the island’s eastern landscapes.

Family owned local business that have a World Class business attitude! I have purchased from North South 4X4 on a number of occasions now and found the experience INCREDIBLE 😳 The first time I made an enquiry over the phone I was greeted by the most jovial and professional individual. I have over 40 yrs experience in the motor industry and feel I should express my gratitude towards this company . I read some of the negative reviews and I think, in my opinion do not deserve merit ( entitled prima Donna’s). I have absolutely no affiliation to the company but based on my professional opinion would definitely rate them Special Forces 💪🏻 As a Dub its always a pleasure to deal with Professional Country Colleagues 🇮🇪☘️ well done 👏🏻

I've been using this company for years for my business & personal use - they have been the only company with consistent availability - I've got crossmembers, chassis mounts, replacement body panels, fuel injectors and tanks, bumpers, bulbars etc. honestly the list goes on really. 10/10 service would highly recommend them again and again. I've had them deliver to customers of mine over in England and Scotland and they have been very quick, I've even done click and collect a few times when I've been up that part of the country. Staff know what they are talking about as well. Top quality and service.
