The trees were beautiful but the best part was the PR14 hike that we took. That was 5/5! Recommend good shoes because it can be quite muddy.

Fanal Forest is part of the Laurisilva of Madeira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Laurisilva is an ancient laurel forest — a type of subtropical cloud forest that once covered much of Southern Europe millions of years ago. Madeira’s high humidity and mild climate have preserved this rare ecosystem almost unchanged.Situated on the northwest side of Madeira, within the Paul da Serra plateau region. Roughly 30–40 minutes’ drive from towns like Porto Moniz or São Vicente.Fanal is famous for its ancient, twisted Ocotea foetens (Til trees) — some hundreds of years old. The area is often shrouded in thick mist or fog, creating an otherworldly, mystical atmosphere.silhouettes — a surreal sight that has made Fanal a top destination. Accessibility Easy by car, with parking nearby

Some say its misty, others say its sunny, but today it was awesome in the wet. Probably the wettest it can get....... Truly soaked through the skin but a great place to visit on the way back to a warm and dry apartment.
Andrei

Such a magical place ✨. You walk straight into the misty clouds, and suddenly everything feels different — the air, the light, the silence. The old twisted trees look surreal, and the cows peacefully walking around (or sleeping) make it even more unique 🐄🌳 Truly one of those spots you don’t forget.

Really something to see. Some might say:” well they are are trees in fog”, I say those trees are many hundreds of years old, older then the 1st settlers some of them, that’s powerful, add the fog and mist and this is a great place to go with your family. Our 2 year old boy loved it
