The setting of this walk is truly magnificent, taking you along a flower-lined levada that meanders through cultivated terraces perched on a steep escarpment. As you follow the trail, dramatic views unfold, showcasing Madeira’s high inland peaks and the striking Penha da Águia, or Eagle’s Rock, rising majestically above the ocean. The path offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and human cultivation, with vibrant terraces adding color and charm to the rugged landscape.
Along the way, the trail provides panoramic vistas of the picturesque fishing village of Porto da Cruz, nestled between the cliffs and the sea. The combination of ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and lush terraces makes this walk both visually stunning and peaceful. It’s an ideal route for those who enjoy gentle hiking while immersing themselves in Madeira’s scenic landscapes and coastal beauty.

A beautiful flat and easy levada to walk around. Back and forth it is about 9 to 10 km. Here and there you walk past the houses with beautiful flowers and a table where you can buy fruit for a few euros. The last part is through the village where you can have a drink.

Very nice hike. We found parking quite easily and the entrance to the Levada was easy to find. Very nice views and no safety issues at all. We liked it a lot. We walked for 1 hour and the walked back.

We parked in this location 32.755122,-16.834680 then walked down the hill to the junction. There are two directions to walk, the one near the concrete walk seemed less overgrown. One area later on had a steep drop with a narrow portion of concrete path.

5k of flat walking (few mins down and up at start and end ) great to see the steep land exploited for growing all kinds of foods.

Nice levada walk. Easy going with some good views of the mountains. If you start the walk here you will see a small tunnel, go the opposite way of the tunnel. We accidentally started the hike in this direction and didn't realise we were going in the opposite direction.
