Halibut fishing in 2026 promises an exciting season, starting from May 20th, with the best chances for success typically after early June. May trips are available, and booking a six-hour combination trip is recommended as extra time improves the likelihood of a successful catch. Each boat is limited to one catch and retain halibut trip per day, and halibut retention is not available on Tuesdays from May 13 through September 9. Any angler 18 years or older wishing to retain halibut must purchase a RQE halibut stamp at the time of booking. Catch and release fishing is available on days closed for retention, and on other days only after all catch and retain trips are fully booked.

While enjoying a halibut trip, guests may also see whales and other marine wildlife, and private trips allow flexibility for family or friends who do not wish to fish. Visitors can combine fishing with whale watching for a full Alaskan experience. The season typically runs through early October, depending on fishing conditions. Rain gear is optional but can be brought along, and all guests are encouraged to dress appropriately for a typical Juneau summer day.
