The Spring Wildflower Walk along Trillium Trail is a 2.5-hour guided outing that offers a delightful opportunity to explore Fox Chapel’s beautiful woodlands in bloom. Led by local ecologist Henry Schumacher, participants will hike 2-3 miles on moderate single-track dirt trails that may be muddy and slightly hilly, including one low-water stream crossing. This outing is ideal for those interested in wildflowers, especially trilliums and other seasonal blooms, and includes tips and techniques for identifying and appreciating these woodland gems. The group will meet at the Trillium Trail South Parking Lot off Hemlock Hollow Road. This outing is suitable for older children accompanied by an adult, as the pace is slow and includes educational discussions along the way.
Participants should be prepared with a water bottle, comfortable closed-toed shoes (ideally hiking or winter boots), and any needed winter gear such as gloves, hats, or scarves. The hike is rated Difficulty Level 3 (moderate) and covers approximately 2-3 miles over undulating terrain. The outing proceeds rain or shine, with safety and comfort prioritized. If cost, accessibility, or gear needs are a concern, participants are encouraged to contact Mel Fetsko via email or phone. Limited cold-weather gear may be available on the day of the hike for those who need it.
