Make a day of it! Bring sun protection, bug spray, all your water toys, pfd’s, sunblock, sunhat, and water shoes. Throw it all in your vehicle and take a day trip to HF! We cookout after we float down the river tethered together. Our tubes have coolers, we stock with ice, snacks and drinks for everyone. Have a day off to cool off! There is limited parking, but we went on a Sunday and $5 parking was available. My first go was a tour on the bus but now we go on our own. Been three times now and will be back next year!
The experience of tubing itself was incredibly fun. The water was cool, the staff was incredibly helpful, kind, and polite. The only reason that this review is not 5 stars is because of the inadequacy of life jacket sizing. There are only two sizes of life jackets available: regular and XL, nothing else. Given that the river current is strong (at parts, some parts are calmer than others), having inadequate sizing for life jackets for people who are bigger, or even smaller or children, is incredibly unsafe. Not only do the straps dig into your skin, the buoyancy does not function as intended if you are sized incorrectly. Given that life jackets ARE required for customers, there ought to be properly sized and fitted life jackets for anyone, regardless of size. I would love to come back to Harper's Ferry Adventure, but not until this is remedied. I will not risk my life for recreation.
Our group of 7 adults and 4 dogs had a great experience flatwater canoeing and kayaking on the Shenandoah River. Mike and RJ were super friendly and helpful in getting our crew in and out of the water. It was a gorgeous day, and we enjoyed sharing the river with tons of tubers. Bonus: a bald eagle flew directly over our heads as we paddled upriver!
