Experience the excitement of kayaking while ensuring safety and readiness for all participants. Everyone using the rental equipment must wear a life jacket at all times, and the kayak’s weight limits must be observed—450 lbs for tandem kayaks and 275 lbs for single kayaks—to maintain stability and control. Participants should have the ability to follow verbal or visual instructions independently or with assistance, wear a properly fitted personal flotation device, and enter and exit the kayak safely. At least one person in the kayak must be capable of moving it through the water steadily and returning it to the launch area, ensuring a safe and enjoyable outing on the water.
Discover how to stay prepared for unexpected situations such as a capsize and enjoy kayaking with confidence. Participants must tolerate 80-degree Fahrenheit water and bright sunlight for approximately 1.5 hours, and in the event of a capsize, they must be able to get out from under the kayak independently. They should also be able to right themselves and remain face up in the water with the aid of a personal flotation device. Learning and following these guidelines allows participants to explore scenic waterways safely while experiencing the beauty of nature on a guided or independent kayaking adventure.
