This three-day advanced powerboating course is designed for individuals seeking to enhance their skills and confidence on the water. Spanning a total of eighteen hours of hands-on experience, the program focuses on close quarters handling, docking, and maneuvering in light wind or current conditions. Students will practice controlling twin inboard, single inboard, or outboard/stern drive vessels while learning situational assessment, planning, and effective crew communication. The course begins at Marina del Rey with an introduction to close quarter techniques, basic and advanced docking exercises, and safety protocols. On the second day, participants depart for Catalina, enjoying an overnight stay on the island while applying the skills learned in real-world conditions. The third day concludes with a return to Marina del Rey, consolidating knowledge and demonstrating competence in vessel handling.
All instruction is conducted by licensed US Coast Guard and certified ASA/RPBA instructors aboard the newest fleet of Beneteau powerboats. Class sizes are limited to three students to ensure personalized attention and optimal learning. Fees cover all materials, certifications, and applicable taxes. Students are encouraged to join the sailing club for discounts and additional benefits. A minimum of two students is required for each class, and rescheduling will be coordinated if needed. Participants should have completed AB101 and come with a willingness to learn and enjoy the experience. This advanced course is perfect for boating enthusiasts who wish to build confidence, refine techniques, and safely navigate challenging scenarios on the water.
