This is my over-the-top place to go when I'm making something for a special occasion. And, it's so good that I've become very good at finding a way to make any seafood-related meal "special". My sister is a professional chef, and turned me on to this place. In one sense, it's a nice fish market with a few dozen fresh selections and a nice mix of all the things you'd need to make a nice meal. But, in the important sense, the fish is fresh and delicious. As in the kind of delicious that you only get from fresh and delicious fish. Like seriously delicious. *Every* time I've used Catalina's seafood someone has commented on the fish and how its exceptional (not my cooking grrrr but the fish(said in fun sarcasm)) The staff is always solidly nice and courteous, and answered any question I've had. It's worth noting that this started with the on-line gift certificate my sister gave me. They painlessly converted it to a gift card, and I've used their seafood a few times over several dinner/appetizers. So, to summarize, I couldn't recommend Catalina's enough; they're as 5 star as it gets.
Catalina Offshore Products has been a San Diego established place for fresh and high quality fresh seafood. We finally dropped in on a Saturday to check this place out. They have varieties of fresh and frozen seafood and a la carte items such as poke, fish ceviche and sell condiments, drinks, specialty salts and sushi preparing items, etc. They even offer grass fed beef from a locally sourced producer. We tried their well marinated calamari salad and the delightful fresh fish ceviche. Love the fresh seafood quality and will be back to try something else.
This is a hidden seafood market gem. I think it is one of the best seafood markets in San Diego because of the high quality and freshness of the seafood. I LOVE to buy the live crabs and do a cajun crab boil! They always have random but delicious spices and sauces that compliment the fresh fish, shrimp, scallops, more fish. They also have useful tools like oyster shuckers, claw crackers and other useful seafood tools. They also do discounts on bulk orders. The staff is super friendly. It's an all around good time when I take my 7 year old! Thank you everyone at Catalina offshore seafood market, see you soon!
