Alpina Discovery 80 Skis Designed for Backcountry Cross-Country Exploration
Winter adventurers looking to venture beyond groomed trails can explore snowy landscapes with the Alpina Discovery 80, a cross-country ski engineered for backcountry touring and ungroomed terrain. Designed for classic skiing across frozen lakes, open snowfields, and remote wilderness routes, the skis provide the versatility and control needed for exploring untouched winter environments.
A key feature of the Discovery 80 is its full-length steel edges, which improve grip and stability when traversing uneven terrain, climbing gentle slopes, or negotiating short downhill sections. This added control enhances confidence in changing snow conditions, making the skis well suited to adventurous skiers seeking greater freedom beyond prepared tracks.
The skis also incorporate Alpina’s Ultra Lite Wood Core construction, which combines laminated wood with integrated air channels to create a lightweight yet stable platform. The design promotes even pressure distribution and efficient power transfer while reducing overall weight, allowing for comfortable travel during longer excursions through the backcountry.
Completing the package is the waxless Sollte Base, engineered to deliver reliable glide across a wide range of snow conditions without the need for traditional waxing. By combining lightweight construction, dependable traction, and low-maintenance performance, the Alpina Discovery 80 offers an ideal solution for skiers eager to create their own routes and experience the quiet beauty of winter wilderness.

Customer Reviews
I have purchased items on two occasions from Nordic Ireland. On both occasions I received phone calls updating me on status. Items arrived promptly. Excellent customer service.
We are so glad we chose Nordic. The tour guides were amazing with their knowledge of the areas, they added so much to the personal experiences as we visited each town. Made facts and points of interest stand out for each so that each day did not run together as they sometimes do. We loved the flexibility throughout. Guides provided great suggestions and alternatives being flexible with the weather and our interests. Even set us up with a great local show that added so much to the trip, especially since we did not know the area and what extras would be worth the time or money. Hotel accommodations were nice, walking distances to local restaurants and pubs. Transportation was perfect, extremely pleased with the large vehicle for our busy group of 8. Having someone organize the trip, and, drive who knew the areas took the stress out of the trip for everyone, leaving us to enjoy the scenery, attractions, and each other.
I needed walking poles and upon arrival at the address, the owner greeted us with 2 friendly dogs and provided us with the poles we need. Made a good joke too.
