What a fantastic hill to hike just before New Year. We didn't do any research beforehand, so I highly recommend that anyone visiting does so. After our climb, we did some research and many articles online said to start from the northern side to avoid the steep rock climbing and difficult sections on the southern face. Since we didn't know, we hiked up from the south. However, it was still a fantastic trek, and I would actually come back to do the same route again; we love taking risks to enjoy those amazing views where it's just us without the crowds. Although, we went back down using the northern route. And it's extremely windy, so beaware of that. Here are some pictures I took.

Beautiful view but extremely windy in winter. The path up to Arthur’s seat can be very muddy so make sure you’re wearing clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Pretty challenging climb for the average person but definitely worth it. Photography by @studiojoaux

Great view from the top to see the whole Edinburgh. It took me 40 minutes to climb up. Choose your path wisely, and it could be slippery after the rain.

Mountain peak offering incredible views of Edinburgh, the sea and the surrounding areas. If you're physically prepared for the wee climb to the top, you will not be disappointed. Wear layers you can easily remove and carry with you. You'll likely overheat on the hike up, but then once reaching the top the winds can get a bit chilly, especially once you've cooled down. Make sure to bring a snack and some water.

one of my top places in edinburgh. arthur's seat has many routes for all levels, the hills are super serene and the views are stunning. seeing the sunset from here's also amazing. it can be extremely windy though, so be warned and dress appropriately.
