Experience the natural beauty of the Lower Salt River on this guided kayaking and paddleboarding tour, where every twist and turn of the water reveals stunning Arizona scenery. This adventure offers a unique opportunity to see the Salt River Wild Horses in their natural habitat, along with other wildlife such as river otters, bald eagles, raccoons, and coyotes. Paddlers will navigate Class I and occasionally Class II rapids while learning from experienced guides about the river’s history, local ecology, and the surrounding desert environment. Tours range from two to four hours, providing ample time to enjoy both the thrill of the rapids and the peaceful beauty of the river’s scenery.
The tour is available from April through October, with launch sites and times varying according to river conditions. All necessary equipment is provided, including kayaks, paddles, life jackets, dry bags, and Tonto Forest parking passes, along with light snacks and water. Participants are advised to wear sun-safe clothing, shoes suitable for water, and bring sunscreen, snacks, and a change of dry clothes. Children under twelve must ride in a double kayak with an adult, and double kayak options are available for younger or less experienced paddlers. Safety is a priority, and all participants must be able to swim and wear a PFD during the tour. The guided adventure includes shuttle service back to the launch site and is operated under permit through the Tonto National Forest by certified instructors, ensuring a safe and memorable outdoor experience.
