Trilho do Sanguinho is a beautiful hike in São Miguel, Azores. You walk through lush forests, visit the old village of Sanguinho, and reach the stunning Salto do Prego waterfall. It’s a bit steep in places, but the views are amazing, and you can even swim in the waterfall if you want. A perfect trail for nature lovers!
This hike is great. Do the loop. Continue further up when the trail goes down to the big waterfall, and you will have your own private swim spot, with a couple of tiny waterfalls.
Park at the end of the road leading to the start of the trail. It might be difficult as the trail is very popular but don't give up! The hike to the 'Salto do Prego' waterfall is a steep climb and can be particularly challenging during a hot sunny day, so pack some light clothing as well as good hiking shoes and your swimsuit. After reaching the waterfall (in which you can actually swim), you can go back to Faial da Terra by going through the abandoned village of Sanguinho, which is incredibly scenic! The paved road at the end of the trail also makes for a pretty steep slope so watch out! The hike takes about 2 hours from Faial da Terra and back. After the hike, run to the beach as fast as you can and dive into the sea: there's nothing quite like it!
