This remarkable grove played a key role in the creation of Redwood National Park and is famous for discoveries that reshaped our understanding of the worlds tallest trees. In 1969 explorers identified the Tall Tree here which once held the title of the tallest tree on Earth. The area contains an extraordinary concentration of record holding coastal redwoods including former tallest trees some of the largest by volume and exceptionally fast growing giants. Walking among these trees offers a rare chance to witness living organisms of astonishing scale and age.
The Tall Trees Trail is a moderately demanding hike that descends deep into the Redwood Creek floodplain before climbing steadily back out. The first part of the hike leads downhill through dense forest where massive trunks tower overhead creating a powerful sense of awe. The return journey brings the main challenge with all elevation gain at the end rewarding hikers with a deep appreciation for the landscape. Covering 3.9 miles and lasting up to six hours this experience is ideal for strong hikers seeking a true bucket list redwood adventure.
