Visit Amalfi Coast - Private Tours and Transportation - Exceptional, Personal Experience To celebrate 30 years of friendship, my friend and I visited the Naples and Amalfi Coast area for 1 week in December, the week prior to Christmas. Although other travel and tour companies were available for group tours to the popular destinations, we chose to book with Visit Amalfi Coast directly for more custom, private tours. We stayed primarily in Sorrento - and enjoyed the private transportation and tours surrounding Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Amalfi. Mario was a fantastic facilitator learning what we wanted to do and how we wanted to spend our time - half relaxing and half touring - he made excellent recommendations well suited to our preferences. Most of our transportation and tours were provided by Alex who was very knowledgeable of the areas, how to best utilize our time and experiences (spending more time in Amalfi and just passing through Positano as it was off season and mostly closed). Alex was flexible with time as we were able to be more spontaneous in where to stop, explore and eat. After a long traveling day, we wanted to get back closer to Sorrento before dinner - and Alex recommended Antico Frantoio in the foothills overlooking Sorrento (rather than in the city center) and the meal and atmosphere and service were OUTSTANDING! Also in Sorrento proper the Restaurante Donna Sofia is spectacular - we visited 2X. In regards to booking through Visit Amalfi Coast directly for private excursions and transportation - it was ideal for 2 travelers wanting flexibility and not wanting to be with groups of other travelers. The Visit Amalfi Coast team were all exceptional and our visit ended with hugs and sharing information. I'll be working with them again!
We recently booked two tours with Mario to cover the Amalfi Coast along with Pompeii and Herculaneum during our stay in Salerno. This was our first trip to Italy, and we wanted to maximize the two days we had in the area. From my first inquiry Mario suggested a quick call to iron out our preferences, and later supplied several itinerary options with different contents, durations, and price points. The first day we had a great breakfast stop in Minori at the Pasticceria Sal de Riso, and then on to Amalfi and Positano. Along the way Mario shared his extensive knowledge of the region’s history and agricultural methods. It was clear he has a great passion for these areas. Mario also was keen to know if we had any particular must see spots, and based off a discussion of my wife’s love for olive oil he was able to get us into a local olive oil producer in Sorrento for an olive oil tasting and lunch. The stated itinerary alone would have met our expectations, but his ability to customize was above and beyond. For Pompeii and Herculaneum, we were accompanied by Giovanna, and she shared a wealth of archeological information about both sites. Her enthusiasm helped bring the history to life. She also goodheartedly indulged our requests to find a Virtual Geocache site at Pompeii, as well as the locations of an Adventure Lab in Herculaneum. Mario and Giovanna made for two special, personalized days for us. It truly felt like coming to town and getting tours from friends that are excited to share their favorite spots! We spent the best day of our vacation last Saturday with Eugenio, the best tour guide in Italy. Eugenio was so passionate about showing us the Amalfi coast. He is a walking encyclopedia of this breathtaking area. He was so funny and his laugh was contagious. He knew everyone in each town it seemed. We stopped at unique and hidden gems throughout the tour. He also reserved a table for lunch at a lovely restaurant in Ravello with a spectacular view. It was truly a beautiful and memorable day that will forever be etched in our minds. We could not have asked for a better guide. He was a very good driver and we felt very safe.
