I think I was in Standard IV when I first read about the ‘Abu Simbel Temples’ in Upper Egypt. By that time, my maternal grandfather had introduced me to the rich history and culture of Egypt. I was also sensitized about the Egyptian hieroglyphs. It was simply fascinating. Naturally, the photographs of the ‘Abu Simbel Temples’ moved me no ends. I remember that I dreamt about visiting the temples someday. That ‘someday’ became a reality on December 18, 2025 (Thursday). After a night spent at the stationary ‘M/S Royal Ruby II Nile Cruise’ in Aswan, my partner and I started very early at 4:00 am. The journey was dreamy. Along the way, we enjoyed the sunrise on the ‘Sahara Desert.’ However, the most important moment came when we entered the ‘Abu Simbel Temples’ complex. It was an absolutely surreal moment. On the bank of the deep blue and wide ‘Lake Nasser,’ the two massive rock-cut temples came to our view! That moment was definitely one of the highlights of my life. And to think about it, the entire temple complex was cut into pieces and relocated in the year 1968 to its current site. Subject to the threat of the temples being submerged by the burgeoning Lake Nasser which was created after the Aswan Dam was built on the River Nile, the relocation happened as part of a special project. We went about both the temples, enjoyed the sheer beauty of the architecture, and came back happy! Indeed, life is great!
The two temples were amazing. It was a 3 hour drive to get there from Aswan, but it was very neat to see the temples for Ramses and Nefertari.
All the guides jasmine, Demiana and Mohammed were helpful and patient and explained everything in detail answered all the questions we had they were friendly and helped us take our pictures as well. Overall a good experience for us
