Chose the Gran Melia based on recommendation from a friend, and it was beautiful. Stayed in the Royal Suite Red Level Cataratas View. That room needs a wood hand rail for stairs. The rope "rail" swings and is too low to provide assistance plus the 2nd post from top is not secure. Could view Iguazu Falls from the hotel, and it is inside the national park so can walk to the upper and lower circuits to view Argentina side of falls. Unless you are in superb shape recommend saving the Brazilian side for the next day along with a 10 minute helicopter ride over the falls. The pool was amazing and very long. The food was delicious. But anyone with allergies note that all bedrooms and public places reek of an overpowering fragrance. I asked for a fan and air purifier. Delivered fan 1st nite and ozonizer 2nd morning, which helped inside room but obviously not in public rooms and spaces. The staff was helpful and kind. I learned too late that each Gran Melia is known for their unique air freshener.

We had the most amazing time at Gran Melia. The room itself is not as fancy as you’d expect from a five star hotel, but we got the waterfall view and it was stunning! The pool was great, great service and we got to go to a park without the crowds in the morning. Would definitely come back!

The hotel has amazing views. Perfect for bird watching or relaxing at the pool. Good quality breakfast, lots of fresh fruit and delicious pastries. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Special shout-out to Esteban at the reception! He was so welcoming at the arrival, he show us our room and was professional and attentive.

Great experience. Staff, rooms and food all great. Red level was a good option and worth the cost, as were the hotel-organised airport transfers. Falls view, top floor room was excellent. Staying here enables you to do all the trails including the train/devil's throat before the crowds arrive and then just relax at the huge pool in the afternoon. Entirely uncomplicated way of getting the very best from staying at Iguazu.

A hotel overlooking waterfalls. It bills itself as a five-star hotel, and in the distant past, it truly was. I chose this hotel because I wanted to stroll through the park for the entire duration of my stay, not just for one day. Now I'll share the real pros and cons. Pros: It's located in a closed park area, open for walks from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (You can access the trail no later than 4:30 p.m.), and these trails are right next to your hotel, so you don't have to drive anywhere. The view is stunning! Everyone can enjoy the view right from the pool! Excellent breakfast, truly five stars! Excellent restaurant and grill bar. Good bed, spa, robes, slippers, apples in vases, water—in general, good service. Cons: It's insanely expensive for such an old place, and the building needs urgent repairs. For example, the shower in our room was completely broken in half, so half the water was leaking onto the wall. The hotel is very far from the city, and without a car, you'll have to dine in their restaurant, as calling a taxi is exorbitant. The most annoying thing for us was that you are required to buy tickets to the park upon entering the hotel grounds (the park is not included in the hotel price), but these tickets are valid not for one day, but for the entire duration of your stay there.
