Ancient Salt Road E-MTB Adventure Revives Liguria’s Historic Mountain Trails

A new guided e-mountain bike experience is inviting adventure seekers to explore the legendary Ancient Salt Road, a historic route once used for transporting essential goods between the mountains and the sea. The full-suspension e-MTB journey begins at the Casa del Romano refuge near Fascia and unfolds across the rugged terrain of northern Italy.

Riders traverse the Antola Natural Park, ascending toward the summit of Monte Antola before connecting with the historic “Cammino Petronico,” an ancient mule track deeply tied to regional trade history. The route passes through traditional villages in the Trebbia Valley, offering sweeping views of terraced vineyards, olive groves, and distant glimpses of the Ligurian coastline.

The physically demanding trail covers roughly 50 kilometers with significant elevation gain, challenging riders while providing opportunities to develop advanced e-MTB skills. Along the way, participants encounter UNESCO-recognized landscapes and the distinctive dry-stone walls that define the agricultural heritage of Liguria.

The journey concludes in the coastal district of Nervi, where mountain paths transition into seaside scenery. Blending sport, history, and dramatic natural beauty, the experience offers a rare perspective on Liguria’s cultural and geographic diversity from high alpine trails to the Mediterranean shore.
