Monsaraz Castle feels like stepping into a postcard. The views over the Alentejo plains and Lake Alqueva are incredible, especially on a clear day. Unlike busier castles, this one is calm, walkable, and genuinely atmospheric. The village itself is just as much part of the experience: cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and a slow, authentic rhythm that makes you want to linger. You don’t need a lot of time here, but you will want to take it slow and soak it in. Perfect stop for views, photos, and a quiet reset away from crowds. Highly recommended.
Don’t miss this little town and castle. There are lots of parking lots along the hillside-we parked almost at the gate to the city. The castle is impressive and free to walk around. The town is really cute too. We were here around new years and they had the world’s biggest nativity scene as it seemed to go throughout the entire town. Really glad we went here.
This castle is really worth a visit. Great lake views, interesting history and architecture. Nearby, a beautiful street with cafés and shops selling local products.
