Rick

One of the many ways up Table mountain from the pipe track. You can reach the "diving board" via this route. Not too difficult but long uphill sections and strenuous. The Upper Cable station is 2 hours walk from the top of this track and involves multiple uphills even after reaching the top. So you must be fit to attempt this route. Has magnificent views of Lion's head and Camps bay.

Kasteelspoort Hiking trail is one of the Table Mountain legends as it’s been around for decades and been walked by generations – sometimes of the same family. It’s a rewarding trail that takes you up Table Mountain and gives the opportunity to navigate to one of the many huts, the dams of even all the way up to the Table Mountain Cable Way station. The views over Camps Bay are simply wonderful and you will find it to be a popular route, though people are very friendly and helpful along the way. It’s entirely for beginners though as there are some steep sections, but still makes for a rewarding hike. Time your walk for early in the morning so that you avoid the summer sun for the most part. The parking down at Theresa Avenue is almost non-existent.

We started in Camps Bay, took us 4 hours of steep climbing and scrambling but wow! What views! Knees were very sore on way down but we made our way to La Parada for cold beers and lunch. Start early in the morning if you can when it’s cool. Don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers!

Truly a scenic route filled with breathtaking views, however you need to scale the mountainous and rocky paths that travel all the way to the top. These paths are not easy and therefore I'd recommend that a person has standard levels of fitness before attempting this hike. Also check the wind speeds. Winds reached an average of 115km/h making it hazardous, especially when continuing up the narrow winding paths.

Excellent route. Parking near the jeep track isn't too difficult. There are several people usually doing the climb so it doesn't really feel unsafe. There are several scrambles but nothing that's technical. The route is mostly in sun so pack a lot of water. Prepare for many lunges. Stunning views of Camps bay and the mountain itself. The route is well maintained and signposted. Fine even on windy days, but avoid if wet.
