Hokokuji is one of my favourite temples to visit with a bamboo forest that is rightfully famous. The forest is a serene experience just down the road from bustling Kamakura although it is very popular and quite small so I would advise visiting outside of normal tourist times. There is a terrace where they serve traditional matcha tea with a some sugary sweets that balance the bitterness of the tea. As you sip the matcha from a traditional a bowl you can enjoy looking out on the forest and soak in the tranquility. Provided there aren’t too many tourists talking loudly around you! Opposite Hokokuji is another temple: Jomyo-ji which is my favourite and has a tea room that is often quiet that I can throughly recommend. It doesn’t take long to visit both so try to fit them in together if you can!
Majestic and magical place. Easy to go to from kamakura Train station just one bus ride google maps is going to be your best friend. Take note there is an entreance fee plus you can enjoy green tea inside for a price. The place is well maintain pictures are not enough to justify how great the place is. Also great during autumn/winter season because of the vibrant colors.
Serene & beautiful. It is a little small but I thought it was completely worth it!! We got there right as they opened so it was empty. Affordable tickets with the add-on matcha drinks at the end. One of our trip favorites!!
