Meet and greet is available at any location in Naples or Salerno. The tour begins with a drive to Mt Vesuvius for a one hour crater excursion where you can reach the mouth of the volcano. Afterward, continue to Herculaneum ruins to explore for ninety minutes and then visit Pompeii ruins for two hours. Both ancient Roman towns were destroyed and buried under volcanic ash in seventy nine A.D. and today provide a vivid glimpse into Roman culture, lifestyle, and architecture. During the day there is an optional stop for a quick lunch before returning to the starting location. Hiring a private guide for the ruins is highly recommended for a richer experience and can be arranged upon request.
The tour includes air conditioned transportation, bottled water, Wi Fi, and an English speaking driver. Mt Vesuvius crater tickets are not included and must be purchased online in advance. Entrance tickets for Herculaneum and Pompeii are also not included. This tour is suitable for infants with provided seats but is not wheelchair accessible. Strollers and prams are allowed, and pets can join if kept in their kennel. The itinerary may change due to natural causes or political events such as strikes or protests. Participants should note that this tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with serious back problems.

Herculaneum is a must see if you are in the area. We picked up a guide outside the entrance called Maria. Maria was an excellent guide. (€150 for two hours, shared by as many people who turn up & want a guide, we had 7 people) Herculaneum was a town of rich people with large villas. It was buried under volcanic lava so much has been preserved. We spent around three hours here and were wowed by the details. Herculaneum had sewers, lead pipes, glass windows, thick plastered walls painted in vibrant colours, beautiful mosaic & marble floors and extremely ornate furniture.

(My trip to the park was part of a cruise destination tour so the tickets and guide were pre-arranged, just to give context.) It was a very interesting and immersive experience, getting to walk through the excavated areas, see inside homes, shops, public baths, and understand how intricate and advanced their understanding of architecture and engineering was so long ago. It's an amazingly well preserved and carefully restored snap shot of what a Roman Empire era resort town had been at the time of Versuvius's ancient well known eruption which also wiped out Pompeii. For anyone who is interested in ancient civilizations and history, I cannot recommend going and seeing it for yourself highly enough and my only regret was that I didn't have time to see the excavation of and artifact museum of Pompeii as well.

A must see! Herculaneum is a really well preserved little town, lost to us on the same day as Pompeii. In many ways it is similar to Pompeii, but there are a few exceptions. The town, as a whole, is better preserved, so it feels more like you are walking g through a living place. There are more items in situ, which makes the visit less up and down. It is less busy with tourists, which is obviously better for a number of reasons. It is much smaller and so you can see everything, at a leisurely pace, in about 2 hours. A wonderful experience, if you like history it is highly recommended.

Amazing site! Smaller than Pompeii but much better preserved — you can still see wooden doors, mosaics, and even ancient food storage areas. It feels more intimate and easier to explore without big crowds. Highly recommend visiting with a guide — they tell incredible stories that bring the ancient city to life. A must-see for history lovers!

Well worth a visit. Much quieter and more intimate than Pompeii with many artefacts still in situ. The site is very well preserved and easy to navigate. I recommend hiring the audio tour which explains everything in detail as you walk around the site. Note that there are still excavations here, so there is more to discover in future. Allow at least two hours for your visit, preferably more. It’s so beautiful you need time to take it all in.
