We met at 3 am and once all aboard bus drove a couple of hours to breakfast stop, large buffet plenty of choice, then another hour to reach the starting point. Our guide Christien coached us on how to tackle the hike and followed last to ensure no one was left behind. The clouds cleared as we reached the summit allowing awesome views. We decided to return by the Red Valley as its unique scenery is worthwhile the extra entrance fee. Back at the bus we descended to the restaurant for a grand buffet lunch then snoozed on the trip back to Cusco. Thanks to Christien our guide for sharing lots of information about rainbow mountain and other topics and to Rivaldo for driving us safely and comfortably there and back.

This is a classic trip. The difference is we depart and arrive early, so it’s not crowded when we get the viewpoint. Also luckily we have 1 hour good weather then. Weather changes fast, be sure you carry layers, hat, gloves and rain gears. If you want to have more time for photos, maybe it’s worth taking the horseback riding to save time. The tour guide Kristine is informative and loves to introduce Cusco culture and history, yet responsible for guests.
