Arrived Wednesday morning long lines at immigration about 25 mins to get through. One bus into the city every hour only. Leaving security was very slow, though the scanners. Passport control can be done in the automated gates for EU, UK and US passports no queue. Very small gift shop and only fast food options once last security.
This airport is quite good and maintained. The immigration was quick. There were 3 currency exchange desks to which you could give any currency you have in cash and they will provide you Lek. There were multiple atms to withdraw the local currency and 1 atm for withdrawing Euro. Lot of food joints were there. Some of them even having traditional desserts of Tirana. The security check was also smooth. Depending on the traffic, it takes just around 25-50min to reach the city centre. There are hourly buses to and from the airport. Buses to city centre cost around €4 or 400 lek. Taxis cost around €11 or 1000-1200 lek.
Our arrival experience was great, with hand luggage only we were off the plane, through the e gates & out to get our taxi in minutes. Sadly they weren’t working for our return flight, so it took much longer. Long queues at security but moved pretty quickly but you need to allow yourself a good amount of time. Kiss & fly area outside to be met by family, friends or other taxi services. Plenty of places to eat & drink, including an outdoor area.
