Explore the ancient valley of gods where Hinduism and Buddhism meet in harmony. Wander through narrow alleys surrounding historic durbar squares, temples, stupas, vihars, courtyards, maths, and traditional resting houses. Swayambhunath Stupa, known as the Monkey Temple, rises gently atop a hill overlooking much of the valley and has stood for centuries as a symbol of faith and unity. The peaceful atmosphere invites visitors to pause for reflection, prayer, and sweeping views of Kathmandu. Nearby, Pashupatinath Temple stands as the most sacred site for devotees of Shiva, admired for its pagoda style architecture, gilded roof, and exquisite silver and wood carvings that reflect deep spiritual devotion and artistic mastery.

Experience the living heritage of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a remarkable city that reflects the medieval glory of the Kathmandu Valley. The square is filled with towering pagoda temples, expansive royal courtyards, and finely crafted clay pottery that showcase centuries of craftsmanship. Walking through Bhaktapur feels like stepping into history, where daily life continues among ancient structures and cultural traditions. The city preserves its timeless charm through architecture, rituals, and community life, offering visitors a deep cultural immersion. From sacred temples to artistic streets and historic squares, this journey reveals the spiritual depth and architectural brilliance that define the Kathmandu Valley.

This was on my bucket list coming to Nepal. It was so incredibly awe inspiring! Words cannot even describe the peacefulness and inner joy that I felt being here. I could have stayed for hours! I didn’t really interact with the monkeys but they were everywhere and it was cool to watch them. Highly recommended to visit and spend some time. Namaste

Swayambhu Mahachaitya (Monkey Temple) is a peaceful and spiritual place with stunning views of Kathmandu Valley. The ancient stupa, prayer flags, and surrounding monasteries create a calm and positive atmosphere. A must-visit place to experience Nepal’s culture, history, and beautiful sunset views.

Swayambhu Mahachaitya, also known as the Monkey Temple, is one of the most iconic and spiritual places in Kathmandu. The temple is located on the top of a hill, offering a peaceful and divine atmosphere. To reach the temple, you need to climb a good number of stairs, but the experience is totally worth the effort. The temple holds great religious importance and gives very positive vibes. The surroundings are calm, with prayer flags, small shrines, and the beautiful main stupa standing tall at the top. As the name suggests, there are a lot of monkeys around the temple. They freely jump here and there, so you need to be careful with your belongings like bags, food, or glasses. One of the highlights of this place is the breathtaking view of the city and mountains from the top. The scenery looks absolutely stunning, especially during sunrise or sunset. Tips: Visit during sunrise or sunset for the best views and peaceful vibes The temple looks even more beautiful when the lights are turned on in the evening If your cab is not booked for a round trip, you may end up paying more, as the cabs available at the top usually charge higher prices Overall, Swayambhunath Temple is a must-visit place for its spirituality, views, and unforgettable experience.

Beautiful and peaceful place. Kathmandu Valley can be easily viewed from all sides but please don't tease the monkeys. If you have brought some food and goods you should be careful from the monkeys.
