Discover the rich history and cultural heritage of Nepal at the National Museum, the country’s first public museum. Originally an arsenal and a private collection of the royal family and Rana prime ministers, it was opened to the public in 1938 and has since become a prominent repository of Nepalese art, culture, and history. Over the years, the museum has collected thousands of pre-historical, archaeological, and culturally significant objects, including sculptures, paintings, and artifacts that showcase the evolution of Nepalese civilization. Visitors can explore exhibits that highlight ancient traditions, royal heritage, and the artistic achievements of the country, making it an essential stop for anyone interested in Nepal’s past and its cultural treasures.

Explore the fascinating military history displayed opposite the museum within an army compound. This collection is ideal for enthusiasts of military and technological history, featuring a two-person tank, Nepal’s first Rolls-Royce gifted by Queen Elizabeth II, and a Sky van transport plane. The displays provide a unique glimpse into Nepal’s defense history, royal transportation, and advancements in military equipment. Together with the museum’s art and cultural exhibits, these collections offer a well-rounded perspective on Nepalese heritage, combining traditional art, historical artifacts, and modern history in one captivating experience. The National Museum remains a place where visitors can connect with the stories, struggles, and achievements of Nepal throughout centuries.

What a great gem. 2.5 hrs walk around when inside look up look down look everywhere, you will miss something. It's an amazing museum lots of history exhibited in one place. Try on uniforms guns sit in different vehicles it's really interactive for children. Friendly staff very knowledgeable. Loved it so did the family. We would have stayed longer only I got hungry. Pitched our bell tent out back in the campsite and used this as our base for the weekend. Lovely quite spot and would recommend. Thanks again collon for everything.

Cool museum , also has camping, 20 euros a night, not much more than a safe place to sleep, bathrooms could use some cleaning !
