Embark on an immersive journey through Cambodia’s rich history with a visit to the Roluos Group, the site of the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire before it was relocated to Koh Ker and later to Angkor Thom. The Roluos Group is home to three incredible temples, each showcasing the beauty and craftsmanship of the Khmer civilization. We begin with Lolei, the northernmost temple in the Roluos complex, built in the late 9th century. Lolei is a remarkable example of early Khmer architecture, and although it’s not as large as some of the other temples, its intricate design and historical significance make it a must-see.
Next, we explore Preah Ko, another 9th-century temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Preah Ko features three towers, each adorned with stone lions and elaborate carvings that reflect the artistic mastery of the time. The temple’s serene atmosphere and unique structure make it a highlight of the Roluos Group. After visiting the temples, we’ll stop for a leisurely lunch before heading to a nearby local village. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to observe daily life in a traditional Cambodian village, where you can explore the local market, shop for affordable souvenirs, and engage with the friendly locals.
Our journey continues with a visit to Bakheng Mountain, an ancient temple mountain established in the early 10th century. From here, you’ll be treated to a stunning panoramic view of the Angkor Wat complex, which is especially breathtaking during sunset. This memorable experience, combining ancient history with scenic beauty, provides a fitting end to your exploration of the Roluos Group and the surrounding region. After a full day of culture, history, and natural beauty, we’ll return to your accommodation, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Cambodia’s ancient wonders.
