Hongyadong (洪崖洞) is truly one of the most unforgettable attractions in Chongqing, and it is 100% a must-visit — especially at night. The scenery is absolutely stunning and feels like stepping into a magical world. When the lights turn on, the entire place transforms into a glowing masterpiece, with the traditional-style wooden architecture stacked beautifully along the cliffside. It honestly looks like something out of a fantasy movie or an ancient storybook, and it’s even more impressive in real life than in photos or videos. At night, the atmosphere around Hongyadong is lively and exciting. There are many people walking around, taking photos, exploring the shops, and enjoying the night view. The whole area feels vibrant, but at the same time it still has that unique historical charm. The warm golden lights, the layered design of the buildings, and the contrast with Chongqing’s modern skyline create a breathtaking scene that is very unique to this city. You can feel why Chongqing is known as a “cyberpunk” city at night — Hongyadong captures that vibe perfectly. One of the best experiences for me was seeing Hongyadong from the river boat tour. From the boat, the view becomes even more fascinating. You get the full picture of Hongyadong lit up against the river, with reflections shimmering on the water and the city lights surrounding it. The perspective from the boat makes it feel even grander and more dramatic — it’s truly a “wow” moment. If you’re deciding whether the boat tour is worth it, I would say yes. Seeing Hongyadong from the river at night is something you’ll remember for a long time. Overall, Hongyadong is not just a sightseeing spot — it’s an experience. The night scenery is breathtaking, the vibe is unforgettable, and the boat view is absolutely magical. If you come to Chongqing, this is one place you definitely must visit, and the best time is at night. Highly recommended!

As a foreigner we saw too many advertising about this Hongyadong cave but turns out it's not fun(for me) too crowded, too loud with honk, traffic too busy, and it's freezing and windy cause it's 9° C winter time so u better prepare your clothes properly, the Hongyadong cave itself also too many queues and crowded inside, but if you wanna take pictures from outside it's very breathtaking because the lights and the building design are spectacular. So in my opinion just take pictures and then move on.

This is a must place in Chongqing. Its quite baffling to understand how these multi-layed structures come together into a huge complex housing hundreds of shops amd restaurants. When fully lit up at night, it transformed into a magical "fairy-land look like" viewing from any cruise ships. This places offers countless of shops and restaurants with fantastic view from their premises. It's bustling with tourists and locals alike.

Hongyadong is a must-see spot in Chongqing — a fascinating mix of old architecture, neon lights, and bustling energy perched along the riverside. The traditional stilted buildings and glowing lanterns create an atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and lively, especially at night when the whole place comes alive. However, it does get very crowded, particularly in the evenings and on weekends, which can make it hard to fully enjoy the scenery or take photos. Still, if you don’t mind the crowds, it’s a great place to explore local snacks, small shops, and get a stunning view of the city’s skyline. Tip: Visit early in the morning or late at night for fewer people and a more relaxed experience. Overall — 4/5 stars: beautiful, iconic, but a bit too packed.

Highly recommend visiting Hong Ya Dong in Chongqing. The lights turn on around 7–7:30pm, so stay tuned for the drum signal—it’s quite a moment. It does get crowded during this time, but that adds to the lively atmosphere. For the best photos, try both from the ground and from the nearby bridge; each angle offers stunning views. You’ll also find people offering photo services for about 20 RMB plus 10 RMB for editing—worth considering if you want professional shots. Overall, a must-visit spot in Chongqing for its beautiful night scenery, vibrant energy, and unforgettable city views.
