We had a truly remarkable experience as a family visiting Sigiriya. The climb is very manageable, even with kids, but I would recommend starting by 8:00 AM to avoid the stronger heat and humidity later in the morning. The views from the summit are absolutely spectacular — well worth the effort. You’re free to take plenty of photos and videos throughout the site, except in the Fresco area (Sigiri Bithi Sithuwam) where photography is not permitted. There are plenty of tuk-tuks available to travel to and from the site, generally at a fixed fare of LKR 700. There is so much rich history behind Sigiriya, so it’s worth taking your time to explore, read the displays, and truly appreciate the journey along the way. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!
Sigiriya is an absolutely breathtaking place and a true treasure of Sri Lanka. The ancient rock fortress is rich in history, culture, and stunning architecture. Climbing to the top is a bit challenging but totally worth it—the views from the summit are amazing. The frescoes, mirror wall, lion paws, and well-maintained gardens show the incredible craftsmanship of ancient times. It’s a peaceful yet powerful place that gives both adventure and mind relaxation. A must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike.
It offers a scenic view from the top and an amazing sunset experience after climbing about 1,200 steps to reach the summit of Lion’s Rock. The entry fee is $40 for Indian passport holders and $50 for others. The hike is easy to moderately difficult. The views from the top are breathtaking, though it can feel a bit scary for those afraid of heights. Still, the panoramic view is absolutely worth the climb. Guides are available at the entrance for as little as $1 per person, which is a great option for learning more about the site. P.S: Carry a Water Bottle but Do not Litter.
