I want to thank Elizabeth, who made my experience in the store adjacent to Arusha coffee lounge very exceptional. She talked about your other stores and the mining experience at clock tower which I was not able to attend but I promised to. I identified the Gem I wanted and I promised to get it .
Had a great visit at the museum. My guide - Jennifer - was very well knowledgeable and was ready to answer all my questions. The guided tour is free of charge and it takes around 20min depending on how busy it is (I went on a Saturday morning and was not busy at all) If you are interested in buying Tanzanite there’s a big selection - mainly of stones I would say - which fits all type of budgets! I think the price is also fair, but I’m not an expert. I paid 150$ for 0.34 carat, good enough to make a little tiny ring, yet kinda of cheap I’d say. As mentioned, I purchased - and asked to see - stones only, so cannot say about the already made jewelleries. They provide a duty free invoice to avoid customs while travelling (hope it works out!) Overall the experience went above my expectations. The museum is rather small, but well organised and the guides make it also very informative! I would definitely recommend a visit!
I had heard of this place described as the Tanzanite Museum. They get you to watch a short video and walk around a mock-up of a mine. It's interesting but not quite what I would call a museum. The rest of the place is a jewellery shop with lots of tanzanite pieces. Jewellery items are very nice but quite expensive, I think we did see cheaper pieces elsewhere. Even with duty free, I don't think this place is great value. We had always planned to walk to this place from our hotel. On the way we ran in to a local who asked if we wanted to go there. When we said we were already going there, he followed us the whole way, even going as far to stay in the shop the whole time we were there. He also followed us halfway back to our hotel. He was employed by Tanzanite Experience to stand on the street and find more business for them. We think he hung around to get a commission on anything we bought. But we found this stranger following us and then hanging around really creepy, especially when you're concerned about someone stealing expensive jewellery you might have on you.
