Arrival flow was good and not too much international flight so the immigration was not having long queue. The design of the baggage conveyor belt having the luggage’s falling from top is in my opinion not a good design, it’s impacting the baggage’s and tends to damage things. However for departure it’s is not making sense if you’re flying international in the morning. The airport has a weird design that you will need to go through customs before going into checkin area for international flight. The customs only open at 6:10am so if you have a flight departing at 8am basically you have tight schedule but they don’t care. I had flight at 8:50am and came here around 5:30am to see a super long queue waiting for the customs. The good thing is that the airport is small so we can reach our boarding gate on time.

Stopped to check out the Duty Free Cosmetics & Perfume in the international area yesterday. I'm an esthetician so I like to learn about products. As I was reading the ingredients of all the brands, a staff member stood silently beside me and didn't say hello, she just walked away once I looked up at her. Then another stood silently staring at me. I said Ni Hao and she just rolled her eyes and walked away. Finally while reading labels of a few other brands, the male staff memeber at least spoke to me a few times. He asked what I was looking for, I told them I wanted to read ingredients. Then he and the female staff memeber laughed. Most awkward place to shop unless you blindly buy brand name products without reading labels. Was I shocked to read most items are mainly petroleum? Might as well buy Vaseline. Also one serum which decent ingredients was 945 RMB for jojoba oil, which you can get for about 11$ CAD. Maybe you should carry quality brands such as Hydropeptide, Dermalogica,or Eminence.

Nice airport, very easy for foreigners to connect through. Arrival immigration was straightforward, no line at all for TWOV. Fast free wifi if you scan your passport. If you're doing a short Xiamen Air connection there's a little lounge with charging ports and tea. There's a lot of cheap hotels near the airport as well (book via Trip). Note domestic security was a little slow and tedious.

I landed at Xiamen Airport around 6 am on a Saturday, and the whole place felt almost deserted. The terminal looks a bit old, with just a few vendors and restaurants open. They do have free WiFi, but it was very unreliable. On the plus side, there are napping cabins and massage chairs if you want to rest.

The airport isn’t the newest, and you can feel that from the architecture—kind of old style, especially when compared to modern hubs like Shanghai or Beijing. Tapi justru itu yang bikin unik, seperti nuansa retro yang membawa kembali ke era awal bandara internasional. One thing that pleasantly surprised me was finding a Tim Hortons Coffee near the departure area. Sebagai pecinta kopi, it felt like a warm welcome. I grabbed a latte and a maple donut—perfect after a long flight. It was clean, comfortable, and not too crowded. 机场的工作人员非常友好，虽然他们的英语不太好，但还是尽力帮助我。This really touched me—everyone was patient and welcoming. The signage around the airport is clear enough in English and Chinese, but not much in other languages, so be prepared if you’re not used to navigating with maps or translation apps. Immigration was smooth, though the queues could get long during peak times. What I enjoyed most was the atmosphere. It’s not overly commercialized like some international airports, and there’s a calmness to it. 在候机时，我感到很放松。 Overall, Xiamen Gaoqi isn’t flashy, but it’s efficient, friendly, and has a certain charm. A solid 4-star experience for any first-time visitor to China. 🌏✈️
