The music was very very loud. But the story was nice and the fact that we could take pictures and have snacks inside.

The entrance is on Juangomen Inner Street, the main street and not where maps suggests (there is a side entrance there, but the main entrance and ticket booths are in the front entrance shown in the picture). Excellent experience of Chinese opera. The audience was fully Chinese on the night we went. The front rows are tables and get served tea.

it's quite fat from the city center. the place quite huge. i watched the beijing opera and the theater is quite big and packed. me and my friends were the only foreigner and it's true that it was so hard for us to understand opera. even the locals might not understand it. but this was a great experience!

The theater itself is quite impressive (even though, it's actually in a sterile business area) and it was not so difficult to get the tickets (even though a Chinese friend helped us). The problem was the performance itself. One of so called "modern" Beijing opera shows - directed, with "updated" content, for large crowds and generally more like a music hall. The quality of performers (singers as well as musicians) not enormous and all anyway destroyed by shockingly lousy amplification. Next time we'll do better research - this really was a mistake.
