Great Silk Way: Southern, 9 days

Tajikistan is traversed by three historic branches of the Great Silk Way, connecting Central Asia with distant lands and cultures. The northern Sugd route links Samarkand to Kashgar, the eastern-western Karategin route stretches from Sariosiyo to Kashgar, and the southern Pamir route runs from Termez to Tashkurgan. These ancient pathways, shaped by Persian, Greek, Chinese, and Arab civilizations, played a vital role in global trade, culture, and socio-economic exchange for centuries. This multi-day tour explores Tajikistan’s cultural and historical treasures, visiting cities, fortresses, mausoleums, and scenic valleys. Highlights include Shaartuz with its mausoleums and Chiluchorchashma, Bokhtar with Kurgon Hill and Ajina-Tepe Buddhist monastery, Vose with Hulbuk Fortress, and Kulob with the Mir Said Ali Hamadoni site. The journey continues to Darvaz and Qal’ai Khumb, exploring the ancient city of Karon, then to Khorog with its botanical gardens, and Ishkashim in the breathtaking Wakhan Valley.
