We did our own tour but this was the only option i could find. You can still find the flavour of the old west here The town is famous for its depiction in much loved Sixties TV series Bonanza starring Lorne Greene as Pa Cartwright. Michael Landon as little Joe.What disappointed me was that here they have allowed the towns old main st to be turned into a modern highway with incumbent trucks'n' traffic spoiling the historic feel, unlike Tombstone where they skirted the highway around the outside of town leaving historic Allen st.exactly as it was in Wyatt Earps 1880's Therd are some great saloons here like Bucket o' blood and you can see Mark Twains newspaper office. Round the back of the town there is a beautiful church and old railway station with great views of the surrounding rugged mining country.

This tour is a must-do while visiting Virginia City. Only 20 minutes long. Running every 30 minutes (or so) from 10am-4pm. A friendly local gentleman takes you on a slow tractor-pulled open-air tour of the city with terrific history around every corner. Only $6 for non-senior, non-junior folks. I now know all about that liar Commstock! Learn about why all the town’s firemen gave some murdered lady a parade. And how many miles of mines are STILL below the town and in the hills!
