In 1991, UNESCO declared Ayutthaya Historical Park a World Heritage Site under the name "Historic City of Ayutthaya." There are over 400 historic sites within the park, including Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Mahathat, and Wat Ratchaburana, demonstrating the prosperity and civilization of the ancient Thai kingdom. Our day at the park began early in the morning with the two most famous and popular stops. 1. Wat Phra Si Sanphet: The royal temple of the ancient palace. 2. Wat Mahathat: Famous for its Buddha head embedded in the roots of a Bodhi tree. Then we had lunch and visited the museum elsewhere where it was air-conditioned for a break After that, we went back to visit 3. Wat Ratchaburana: Has a beautiful prang (pagoda) 4. Wat Phra Ram: Has a large prang (pagoda) One of the last ones we visited was 5. Wat Chaiwatthanaram: A beautiful temple on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. It was a beautiful evening along the Chao Praya River as the sun set and a beautiful breeze blew. With the timing that we managed, we could have avoided crowds and enjoyed the beautiful scenery uninterrupted. I highly recommend buying a multiple entry ticket, which costs 300 baht for foreigners and 80 baht for locals. Your tickets are valid until 6:30 p.m. We will definitely return and visit more temples in Ayutthaya. Remember to keep the following in mind: Please do not stand on the pedestal of the Buddha statue or sit in areas that are prohibited by the Fine Arts Department. It is not permissible to take photographs with your head resting on the Buddha's head. Please strictly respect the rules and regulations.

The capital of the ancient Kingdom and once the biggest city in the world. Ayutthaya was founded in 1350. The full name of the city is Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, meaning the 'Sacred City of the Good and Invincible One'. Around the 16th century the first Portuguese travellers was naming the Kingdom Siam. A name that would last. In 1939 the Kingdom of Siam changed its name to the Kingdom of Thailand. In 1767 the Burmese captured the city and razed it to the ground. The new capital Krung Thep meaning City of Angels was founded further down the Chao Praya river in a strategic location surrounded by a swamp at a river bend. It lay opposite an older Chinese trading settlement called Bangkok.

Just a short drive from Bangkok, Ayutthaya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that takes visitors back to the glory of Thailand’s ancient capital. The city is dotted with temples, ruins, and Buddha statues, each telling stories of a rich past. Exploring by bicycle or boat along the rivers that weave through the historic park offers a serene way to soak in the sights, while the mix of crumbling architecture and lush greenery creates a truly picturesque experience.

My first solo trip here. Hot today but enjoyed the experience very much. I will be back with my wife. Easy to reach, though I walked from the teain station, about 45 mins🥰
