Absolutely breathtaking! We rented a local taxi and were pleased to arrive earlier before the crowds and also had very nice weather. We rented hiking poles which prevented a few near slips through the mud. My only complaint is that a few hikers (thankfully only on our way back) brought loud speakers, drowning out the local birds and the sound of the water. If you really can’t have an experience without a soundtrack please use headphones and keep the trail peaceful for others!

This was easily the highlight of my time in Ushuaia. The full hike took us about 4 hours — around 2.5 to get there (lots of photo stops) and 1.5 to come back. The trail feels way less touristy than most organized excursions, and it’s completely free. We grabbed an Uber for about $5–10, and from there the trail is super straightforward. They’ve put stickers and markers all along the path, so even if you wander off — which we did a few times just to explore — it’s easy to find your way back. We definitely weren’t perfectly equipped. No trekking poles, not the most “hiking-approved” outfits… and yes, our shoes and pants got VERY muddy. But honestly, it was totally fine and everything cleaned up once we got back. We even found wooden sticks on the way that worked perfectly as makeshift poles. The hike itself is stunning. You pass through forests, open valleys, muddy sections, rivers, and completely different little micro-climates. And then the lagoon appears at the end — this unreal turquoise color. Photos truly don’t capture it. If you’re in Ushuaia, do this hike. It’s beautiful, fun, accessible, and feels like a little adventure you discovered on your own. Highly recommend.

Went on a group trek in a group of 10 people. Took us about 5 hours to the lagoon and back from the parking lot(about 2 hours each way, and one hour for lunch). The date was 10/14/2025. The lagoon was partially frozen, though in the unfrozen part you could see the water's emerald color. The contrast with the snowy mountains on the background was stunning. In my opinion, this time of the year is the best if you want to enjoy the pristine beauty of this scenery. Additionally, the way back is also stunning, with the valley before the lagoon showing its immensity.

The worst hike in Patagonia. Choose another beautiful hike, one that's less touristy and more accessible. It's one long pigsty towards the lake.

Very beautiful would suggest hiking in the morning since the muddy ground was still frozen when we started walking. Plus the lake shows better reflections if the sun isn't directly on the lake.
