Charming little waterfall, great to have a little picnic with your family in good weather. The Nobel prize winner in literature, Halldór Laxness walked to this waterfall most days he lived in the house Gljúfrasteinn. Short hike from the parking lot, or a little longer hike from Gljúfrasteinn.

Short easy hike/walk with minimal elevation change. Some stairs involved. We were there about 2 hours and felt we explored satisfactory. If you wanted to make a day of it, you could, there where other trails off the main one.

Helgufoss is a beautiful, serene and less touristy waterfall near Reykjavik. We enjoyed hiking down to the water and even jumping in the frigid water. The horses were a bonus to the magic of the day. The horses were very friendly and approached us as we walked back to our car. I would recommend this!

Decent amount of parking available, short drive from city. Easy hike (doable for toddlers) beautiful waterfall, plenty of grassy open space near waterfall for relaxing or picnicking. Be sure to check out large rock formation facing the waterfall, fairly easy to walk up the rock on the opposite side from waterfall. Lots of delicious crowberries in mid to late summer months. On your way back to parking lot, be sure to check out the farmhouse ruins to your right (sign says Bæjarrústir.)

Stopped here as soon as we got to Reykjavík, and it was a beautiful place to sit and relax after a long plane ride. It is a little steep, but we got to pet horses and climb around the waterfall.
