Lava show was good. Entertaining and informative. The premium pass was the best. A free drink and the ability to see (and play) with the equipment (suit) before the show, along with the ability to see the aftermath (behind the scenes) was the best part of this experience.

We visited on a Saturday and the process of purchasing tickets was very quick. As we did not arrive near a showing time, we had to wait 30 minutes or so for the next event and purchased the premium admission for the lounge and balcony view. The premium lounge is adults-only and Iain made the premium process very smooth and simple, and greeted us with a smile. Our furnace operator was Max, who was toiling away in the furnace room wearing a specialised suit during the show. If you opt for premium, you can try on the suit that volcanologists wear while they are researching active volcanoes, and also visit the furnace room after the show. Iain was very knowledgeable and able to answer all questions regarding the furnace (which gets to ~1200 degrees Celsius!) Our guide for the show itself was an incredibly knowledgeable geologist named Samantha, who verbally explained and practically demonstrated many different properties of the type of lava used in the show, as well as explaining how other types of lava may behave differently from what we were seeing. After the showing, there is an opportunity to ask your guide questions that are burning up inside of you. Guests that have paid for premium will watch a further video giving a brief overview of the process and the furnace (Ragnarök), before getting a closer look at Ragnarök in-person from a safe distance. We also got a piece of lava each to take home! Entrance fees to museums and exhibits in Iceland can be expensive, but this was a very informative experience with fantastic staff (also it's pretty damn cool!)

This location is really easy to find. There’s also parking available in case you’re driving. We went for the Premium ticket when we visited which was great. With the premium ticket, you take an elevator to the second floor to a private bar where one cocktail or drink is included with your ticket. You get to chill up there until they open the private viewing area from the second floor. Once the show starts you have the option to stand to look over the protective glass. The show itself is so cool! Watching the lava flow and all the info from the geologist is so interesting! After the show the premium ticket holders get to hang back and watch an extra film and see their lava making machine. And you also get a piece of lava to take home as a souvenir. The gift shop also has a ton of cute stuff to take home.

The Reykjavík Lava Show is one of those rare experiences that feels both deeply educational and absolutely magical — the kind of attraction that leaves you glowing long after you step back outside into the Icelandic air. From the moment you enter, there’s a sense of cozy anticipation, like gathering around a modern-day hearth. The hosts greet you with warmth and genuine enthusiasm, and their passion for Iceland’s volcanic history is infectious. You don’t just learn about lava — you feel the stories of eruptions, landscapes reshaped by fire, and the incredible power that created this extraordinary island. And then the show begins, and everything shifts. Watching real, molten lava flow just a few feet away is nothing short of awe-inspiring. The brilliant orange glow, the crackling sound, the wave of heat — it’s like witnessing the heartbeat of the earth itself. It’s beautiful, dramatic, and strangely calming all at once. The way the hosts narrate the science and share personal tales makes the experience even more intimate and unforgettable. What sets the Reykjavík Lava Show apart is its perfect blend of wonder and warmth. It’s thrilling without being overwhelming, educational without ever feeling like a lecture, and accessible for anyone curious about Iceland’s fiery soul. Whether you’re a science lover, a nature enthusiast, or simply a traveler looking for something truly unique, the Reykjavík Lava Show is a must-see — a glowing highlight of any trip to Iceland.

The Lava Show in Reykjavík was a unique and unforgettable experience that allowed us to witness Iceland’s volcanic power up close. Watching real lava being melted and poured right in front of us was far more intense and exciting than I had imagined. The moment the bright, glowing lava began to flow, it felt as if we were peering into the heart of the Earth itself. The heat, the crackling sounds, and the shifting light created a level of realism that simply can’t be captured through videos or photos. It truly felt like experiencing the “heartbeat” of the planet. The staff provided clear and engaging explanations throughout the show, covering everything from lava temperatures and flow behavior to how volcanic activity works. Their commentary made the experience not only entertaining but also highly educational. It’s a show that both adults and children can enjoy and learn from. The entire program lasts about 45 minutes, but the time flew by because of how immersive and fascinating it was. Although the ticket price is on the higher side, I found the experience well worth it. Since it takes place indoors, it’s also a great activity for rainy or windy days. If you want to deepen your understanding of Iceland’s volcanic nature, this is an attraction I highly recommend.
