Wir hatten gestern (Mitte Dezember) eine Tour durch die Schlucht 'Torrent de Pareis'. Nichts für Anfänger. Nicky unsere Leitung war super und hat uns wertvolle Tipps gegeben, um sicher durch die Schlucht zu kommen. Das Wetter war perfekt und wir mussten nicht zu früh starten, im Sommer ist es früher notwendig wegen der Sonne. Am Ende wurden wir mit einer tollen Aussicht in Sa Calobra belohnt. The definite guide for Torrent de Pareis: Ok, so, after researching a lot and reading through comments on Komoot etc. we wanted to present you the main take aways. If you're prepared, it's absolutely worth it! It's a stunning canyon on this side of the world! Time: 2-4 hours one way. Direction: We did it top to bottom and took a Taxi back to our car at the parking lot in Escorca. To our knowledge, there is no bus operating in Sa Calobra. The taxi cost us 60€ for three people. There's a Taxi Sign, phone number and phone reception in Sa Calobra. We wouldn't want to hike it up again. If you're a very motivated hiker, this might suit you. Bottom to top? Works too, but at the end, you need to hike up a steep hill (if you want to get to the parking in Escorca) which, depending on the time of the day and sun, could be very very tiring. Equipment: 2-3 Liters of water a person, depending on your need and time of the year. Hiking shoes! Don't go with sneakers, Flip Flops, etc. Take some snacks/food, sun blocker. Do you need a rope? We heard everything from absolute must have to you don't need one. We didn't have one and it was ok. We are both rock climbers tho. Was it dangerous? Well, if you slip, you can hurt yourself or worse. There are (rusty but usually two) bolts for some of the difficult parts. 10m of rope would be sufficient. Clothes: Long pants are recommended, if you're hiking from/to Escorca. The long grass is really sharp. You'll notice the cuts latest in the sea. Conditions: Don't go if it's wet. Most people get hurt or worse when it's moist or wet, according to the locals (Taxi driver, host, comments, guides). The rock is very slippery! Take your time, do the scary moves slowly, one by one or have yourself belayed on a rope. We saw people in big sturdy hiking boots, having trouble. Probably best is an approach shoe with a softish but not too thick sole (sorry, that's nerdy). Weather Conditions: Don't go, if it rained the days before. There's a website publishing if it's dry or not. Don't go in summer in the middle of the day. It will get hot, you will get tired and dehydrated. Orientation: There are marks and cairns in some places. If you follow the well beaten track (slippery rock), you're probably on track. The hard and scary parts: There are several sketchy slides/down climbs early on, once you reached the river bed. If you passed those, you'll be fine for the other ones lower and closer to the end. All in all, there's around 3-4 parts where you should not take a fall or slip. Some moves are sketchy but not severe, if you mess up. Some parts are quite narrow depending on your body size. Safety: Let someone know that you're doing the hike. There's no cell phone coverage in the gorge. Let them know, what time they should call rescue if they haven't heard anything from you. We heard stories of people getting stuck for a night or even during the day, when it started raining. There are some hideouts on the sides, in case there is a flood like caves etc. Kids: Possible. Be prepared to help them, standing on slippery rock with the possibility of a fall. Don't take toddlers! You're risking their life! For us, it's been one of the highlights of the whole island. We did on 22. of October 2025. Be ready, enjoy, and if you're struggling to go up/down on the first obstacles, it's probably best to turn around, book a guide, take a rope or do it with better preparation. We hope this helps. Lots of people at the beginning but deeper you go less people you meet. We was there after the storm so there was couple of lakes with water deep up to couple of meters. But I belive thanks to this it was even more spectacular.
