My family and I flew in from Boston to visit my nephew for the 4th of July. My 11-year-old daughter, who’s an adrenaline junkie, was really excited about the idea of taking surf lessons. All recommendations pointed to Malibu, and from there, narrowing down instructors, Mako Surf Club took the win. We didn’t make reservations online and decided to roll the dice by just walking up. We were greeted by Joe and Sam—a dynamic duo from their A team. I told them my main focus was our daughter and her experience, and they were more than 100% on board. They even pulled an instructor, Christian, from another group to work with her one-on-one. Christian, who is home from med school for the summer, was more than happy to teach her. Before we knew it, she was up and standing almost independently on some pretty decent waves. After the session, we had the chance to chat with Tom, the owner. Absolutely the best birthday of my adult life was spent on the ocean with Malibu Makos- Instructor Mikey. I felt safe, well informed and learned so much.
