Last year was my first time skiing in New Zealand and loved it so much I just had to come back this season. The Remarkables are so well run as a ski resort. From the lift operators, the ski hire crew and the restaurant staff, everyone is really lovely. As it was the end of the season, the queues weren’t bad at all. We got some great runs in over the week and I could feel myself improving each day. The weather took a turn a couple of times which resulted in some lifts closing but as soon as it was safe, they were opened again. The runs are a decent length, which meant that as a green skier it gave me the chance to practice with plenty of room. Food and drink are available on the mountain but it’s obviously a bit pricey but after a few hours skiing, a hot meal is just what is needed! There are lockers for hire in the complex (downstairs under the restaurant) which means you can safely lock everything up and return as often as you like. Ski equipment can also be left overnight on the mountain but apparently it fills up quick in peak times, so best to get in early if you don’t want to have to carry your skis back up the next day. The Remarkables are about a 40 minute drive up the mountain from the centre of Queenstown and honestly, I found it better than the other resort a bit closer to town. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a great resort too but as I wanted to improve my skiing over longer runs, The Remarkables were perfect for me. I’m off to go look at booking for next year!
Nice ski area with great views and a relaxed atmosphere. We visited in late July and barely had to wait for the chairlifts, which was a pleasant surprise. Some areas had limited snow coverage, though, so take care on the slopes. Overall, a fun experience even in the off-season!
This is a great mountain to check out! I wanted to turn my nose up to it based on the snow reports, but it haf really fun terrain and the snow felt like more than what was reported.
