The resort is beautiful, with lots of fun things to do for the kids ranging from the man made lagoon, swimming pools, waterpark, laser tag, bowling & mini bowling, rock wall, arcade, indoor gym. The spa was fantastic. The rooms are smaller & a little dated, but they were nice too. We had great food, the staff went out of their way to make our stay fun & comfortable. We had exceptional service from Astridt, Charlie, De Ana, Susan, De Ana & many more. One of the things that made it a special, great, was the fact that when there wasn’t something out by the pool to eat for the kids, the buffet gave you to go plates/silverware To go get something off the buffet to bring to the children. Our family would absolutely come back, and plan to!
We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, and overall our experience was mixed. We were placed in building 4 and the room itself was nothing special—very basic and quite small. There were two double beds pushed tightly together, leaving almost no space to walk around the room. The bathroom had visible mould, which was disappointing. The balcony door did not lock properly, and the air conditioner made a very loud noise. We complained about the AC twice, but nothing was done to resolve the issue. Overall, the resort feels like it’s falling apart in many areas, with patchwork fixes instead of proper maintenance. There appears to be a significant lack of upkeep despite how much work the property clearly needs. That said, the service was excellent—staff were friendly, attentive, and hardworking throughout our stay. The food was also quite good, with plenty of options. Toro Steakhouse stood out as the best dining experience. The buffets, however, were repetitive, serving mostly the same food every day for lunch and dinner, with breakfast being the only meal that occasionally differed. Entertainment was enjoyable and well done. One major downside was how heavily the resort caters to VIP and Legendary (Hall of Fame) members. Pool and beach chairs were reserved as early as 7 a.m. or earlier for VIP guests, leaving very limited options for regular guests. This felt extremely unfair, especially considering many non-VIP guests—ourselves included—paid thousands of dollars for this vacation. If the resort wants to prioritize VIP members to this extent, they should limit the number of bookings so that all paying guests can still enjoy the amenities. We paid over 11 k CAD for one week, and we’ve stayed at much cheaper resorts that were far better maintained with similar service quality. For the price, this resort simply doesn’t deliver what it should. To put things into perspective, we stayed at the Hard Rock Punta Cana last year for a similar price, and the experience was outstanding. There was no major divide between VIP and regular guests, plenty of seating everywhere, beautiful restaurants, exceptional service, and rooms that were phenomenal and extremely well maintained. Unless a major renovation is completed and the VIP imbalance is addressed, I don’t see us returning to the Hard Rock Riviera Maya. For the price point, guests should be receiving much more.
This is a big resort but it’s very well laid out and there’s cozy spots all over! The biggest flaw is chair reservations at the pool. We’ve had VIP guests (and regular guests) reserve chairs at the pool beside us all week and not show up. I saw people have 3 different locations reserved. We choose hotels that don’t accept chair reservations now, it’s much better and more fair. We came to Hard Rock as part of a group, but won’t come back because of this. The food and service is amazing! It’s a great family resort and the adult side is very cozy also!
